Christ Calling the Fishermen to be His Disciples - Yellow
Artist:
Sadao Watanabe
Description:
Christ raises his hand as he calls the fishermen, possibly James and John, to follow him, while their father, Zebdedee, mending a net, looks on. The fishermen, their hands upraised, step reverently towards the frontally shown figure of Christ, whose hand is overlapped by that of one of the men, as if to signify agreement and unity. The waves beneath bear the feet of Christ as if to foretell the miracle of his walking on the sea. Above three parrallel lines appear to point towards the future and events to come. The bright yellow background is frequently used by Sadao Watanabe and appears to glow behind the figures shown in colors of white, black, red, green and darker shade of yellow.
An exceptionally large Print in pristine condition; it has never been framed.

Mark 1.19-20: Jesus went a little farther on and saw two other brothers, James and John, the sons of Zebedee. They were in their boat getting their nets ready. As soon as Jesus saw them, he called them; they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and went with Jesus.
