Poem 68-51 A calligraphic 'letter' on embossed ground together with small deep embossed geometric shapes and color acccents, suspended in subtle movement. An elegant print, indeed.
Poem 70-15 A large vertical Print with embossed calligraphic symbols on white, textured ground. Highlights of red cirlce and green teardrop shapes accent the composition, as does the warm yellow border.
Poem 70-8 Bold strong red abstract form, enhanced by Maki's use of color embossing, stands out in strong relief on black ground; a small polished circle within the angle of the upper arc, draws the viewers eye up to this accent. Strong calligraphic reminiscence of Japanese script, as frequently found in Maku's work, is much in evidence in this bold rendering of "Poem".
This is one of Maki's large prints, not often available.
Poem 72-91(mu;nothing) This vibrantly printed kanji for'Nothing' was done in 1972 at the height of Maki's production powers. The calligraphy shoots down the print from top to bottom as if the brush hardly stopped
