Abuto in the Morning Fine image and color of Boats on the River, diffused by the early morning light, their blue shadows, sails and the hills beyond, creating multiple patterns in this peaceful yet animated image
Fox Wonderfully animated stencil of mermaids and fox, fish and waves in a composition of arabesques - the action is a curving, circular movement that is both harmonious and exciting
Akamamma - Little One The little Girl, surrounded by a brightly colored, flowering plant, holds her fists tightly under her chin, as if in intense, perhaps wishful, thought
#29 - Considering Tokuyama Village - The Wind Filled with Roots Tokuyama Village had to make way to 'progress', the building of roads and industry. This event, so sad for the village, is expressed in the uprooting and dispersing lines, apparent in this Work.
#27 - Considering Tokuyama Village A combination of beautiful subtle tones and linear shapes.. Hayashi uses spinning lines, with reference to wind, around the orderly pattern of geometric form.
The full title is: Considering Tokuyama Village - The Memory of Earth and Wind
#34 - Spinning the Wind 6 A large and dramatic print in wich Hayashi has integrated the image by means of a large, swirling combination of colors; these in turn contrast with the varied forms and color beneath. This is one of the Artist's most successful Prints.
#25 - Considering Lao-tse (35) In this color etching the dark geometric form blends softly into the surrounding space. The grid of red dots defines and enlivens and the horizontal red bar appears to define and limit the otherwise, seemingly limitless, space
#45 - Considering Tokuyama Village - The Counting Days Tokuyuma Village was destroyed to make room for a highway; five rows of 4 oval 'counting shapes' evoke this emotional event, as they float in the motled grey/black space, high lighted by small red squares, evenly spaced
#21 - Spinning the Wind 4 This Print, very bold in shape and color, creates a strong presence; Soft areas of yellow, and brown and black add balance to the bright red of the delicately patterned Kimono form.
#20 - Kasose 9 A large Print of contrasting shape and color that is bold and arresting.
Hayashi's Work is meticulously printed on heavy handmade paper that is both firm and pliable; this enhances his Art, adding quality and enrichment to his Prints.
#11 - The Edge - Recording a Life in a Fingertip Close circular lines and patterns appear to be pulsing with life, in a beautiful composition and fine color combination
#1 - Spinning the Wind 5P Beautiful color etching in blue, rust and red with strong opposing pattern and color, resulting in a pulsating, vibrant image
#95 - The Nest of Winds 3 This Print, of vertical dimension, is divided horizontally into three equal sections from which the energetic, animated, swirling patterns move, collide and extend; each section is a different composition, yet they relate in color and concept; below this exciting, everchanging event a narrow, darker band stabilized the explosive action above.
#98 - Considering Lao-Tse (5) The latest color etching by the Artist in the Lao-Tse series, combines rich grey and burgundy colors in a conception of varied floating shapes, enhanced by the grid/dot patterns that enhance this series.
Aoba Castle, Sendai Very fine night scene of the old temple in gradation of colors of blues, greys and black; in the moonlight roofs and branches cast gentle shadows, their shapes carefully coordinated, they enhance the closed quietness of the scene. In the night sky, a focus of a single star - often found in Haui's work.
The ancient temple (dated to 1602) is no longer extant; it was destroyed in the second World War, lending a special poignancy to this fine Print.
Backstage [Gakuya] Ito Shinsui has here created a composition of planes and patterns in bold juxtaposition of yellow, black and grey; the traditional image of the back and nape of a female figure in Japanese Art is here made 'modern' in the reflection of her face and hand as she applies her powder; the face in the mirror with its fine clarity and red accent becomes thus the focus of the extraordinary composition.
